About Chicago Master Singers
Chicago Master Singers (CMS) was established in 1979. It is an auditioned chorus of 90 volunteer singers who work at and perform to professional standards. The ensemble’s repertoire includes the great choral masterworks and contemporary works by living composers, performed in collaboration with professional orchestras and soloists. In addition, the chorus performs unaccompanied works, including entirely a cappella concerts in advance of overseas performance tours as ambassadors of goodwill.
CMS has developed several education initiatives, including choral workshops featuring outstanding clinicians and CMS University seminars.
Chorus members are drawn from many communities throughout the Chicago area, and come from all walks of life and professions. For some, music is their vocation as professional singers, teachers, and choir directors; and for others, it is their avocation, a way to enrich their lives by coming together with those who love to sing and performing great works of music.
